Homework Expectations and Routine
Dear Parents,
Your time is valuable and when your child sees you willing to take time to look at what they are doing in school, the message is clear that school is important. If your child is already a reliable student, the rewards will be intrinsic. However, if your child does not feel proud of their accomplishments or if it is a struggle to get through schoolwork, you might consider small rewards at first. Remember, you are helping your child develop good life skills.
Homework Due:
Reading Log due on Fridays
Spelling done independently
Math homework due next day
DAILY HOMEWORK ROUTINE:
1. After School Reading (Due Monday through Friday)
Students are expected to read for 30 minutes Monday through Friday.
Students write 1 paragraph with a comprehension focus due on Friday
Parents need to initial stating (a) you checked the reflection and (b) your child read for 30
minutes.
Example:
After School Reading Reflection
Write several sentences in your own words that summarizes what has happened in your book/chapter this week. Tell me what book you read in the first sentence. Use Time Order words Ex: (first, the, next, after that, last, in the end).
I read Charley and the Cholate Factory. In the beginning, Charley wanted to find a chocolate bar with the winning golden ticket. The winner would be invited to the Factory. Then, he bought several bars with the help of his grandpa and with the money he had found. Finally, he opened the last chocolate bar, and he found the 5th winning ticket! He was so excited.

2. Spelling Homework-practice the spelling words for Fridays Test
Students will take a test each Monday and will bring home their weekly list of 15 words home, 10 will be from our Treasures' list and 5 will be high frequency words. Lists are individualized for each student. Students can do the page sent home or do one of the activities on the SpellingCity page of this website.
3. Math Homework-usually sent home most days except Fridays. Due next day.
Math review from work done that day.
For extra practice, go to the math links on blackboard
Homework will be checked for a completion grade. The goal of homework is to practice the skills learned in class, it’s valuable practice.
If the HOMEWORK FOLDER or assignment is forgotten at school, please insist that your child still use their regular homework time on to read and finish a written response on a separate piece of paper to bring in if lost.
